La Gauterie is a renovated farmhouse, set in nearly 24 acres of glorious countryside, situated on the edge of the Perigord Limousin National Park.
The nearest town, Verteillac, provides a bank, boulangerie, butchers, post office, chemist, general store, bars, cafes, restaurants and outdoor market and art gallery.
The gite has a private garden with views over the rolling hills, red roofed homes and verdant woods. At times deer, wild boar and a profusion of birds can be seen, such as the hoopoe, golden orial, black redstart, black and red kite, Montagu’s harrier and migrating booted eagle and cranes . What could be nicer on a warm summer evening than to use the BBQ, glass of wine in hand, sit and chat, watching a vividly red sunset and listen to the sounds of the countryside.
For children there is a swing, slide, trampoline , and under the trees a raised play house. Play badminton and boules. On a wet day escape to play table tennis or pool in the games room. A small supply of bikes and helmets are provided free of charge, albeit there is no gaurantee that all sizes are available.
Very importantly there is a lovely 10 x 5 m swimming pool for your exclusive use, where you can sit and read a book, sunbath and swim. Or why not go into the small orchard and pick and eat the in season fruit.
All of these areas are surrounded by our meadows for our horses and land for crops such as sun flower and maize.
Leaving the property there are many places to go for walks and rides and to have a picnic. Close by there are some fishing lakes/tourbieres to fish with the necessary licence. (Let us know so we can organise). A little further afield there are lakes and rivers with beaches where you can fish, swim, canoe and sail. Why not go and visit one of the numerous beautiful villages and Chateau that proliferate the area. Play golf in Angouleme or visit the big outdoor market in Riberac.
Of course the area has a world renowned reputation for good food, wine and for the numerous local retaurants where you can partake in a 4 or 5 course plat de jour at a surprisingly low price making eating out such a joy.
